Development Assistant

LEAP: Learn. Engage. Advocate Partner is seeking a Development Assistant to support our Development Team. The ideal candidate will possess excellent verbal and written communication skills, strong attention to detail, and a commitment to LEAP’s core values of Integrity, Respect, Collaboration, Creativity, Curiosity, and Joy.

The Development Assistant supports LEAP’s annual fundraising goals through their involvement with event planning, e-newsletters, invites, annual reports, annual giving campaigns among other projects. The position supports a broad variety of communications functions that promote, enhance and protect the LEAP’s brand, including PR, digital marketing, social media publications, media relations, advertising and events. Additionally, the role involves managing the database and gift processes to ensure accurate tracking of donations, efficient acknowledgment of contributions, and seamless donor communication.

Specific duties and responsibilities include:

  • Under guidance from Development team, process gifts, maintain donor database, pull weekly gift reports, and create and mail gift acknowledgment letters.
  • Support Development team to conceptualize and execute successful fundraising and “friend raising” events. May include transporting event supplies, set-up, refreshments, clean-up, attendee follow up.
  • Under guidance and in consultation with the Director, conceive, research, and write website content, press releases, newsletters, reports, impact stories, fundraising appeals, blogs, and other collateral and publications, appropriately adapting voice, tone and style to a variety of contexts.
  • Collect photos and create content for LEAP’s social media accounts. Collaborate with other departments to gather and share stories of LEAP’s impact in the community. Includes site visits to LEAP Children’s Centers, Family Resource Center, and off campus locations.
  • Maintain electronic files, photo library, and media lists.
  • Work independently and collaboratively with the team and other teams across LEAP.
  • Support the Development team with other duties as assigned.
  • Updating of LEAP Outlook calendar as per organizational standard.

Essential Requierments

  • Candidates must be available to work in our Goleta office and attend in-person development events.
  • Must have valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills.
  • Genuine appreciation for the mission of LEAP.
  • Basic competency in Office 365, social media platforms, and Adobe tools.
  • Excellent organizational skills and ability to work within deadlines with acute attention to details.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to communicate within all levels of the organization.
  • Team player with a positive, can-do attitude
  • Ability to address competing priorities in a changing environment.
  • Written and verbal Spanish proficiency preferred.
  • Bachelor’s degree, or fourth-year undergraduate, or equivalent work experience preferred.

Physical Work Requirements

Category of Light Work: Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects.

General Requirements

  • Must pass the DOJ/FBI/Child Abuse Index fingerprint process.
  • Must pass a pre-employment physical examination and tuberculosis clearance.
  • Show verification for the Measles, Mumps and Rubella (MMR) and the Diphtheria, Tetanus and
  • Pertussis (DTaP) vaccinations.

Salary

Salary range is $55,000 – $65,000 annually. This is a full-time, exempt position.
