Join Our Team  Multi-Skill Cook

As a member of the Children’s Center team, the Multi-Skill Cook will be responsible for meal planning, preparation and serving within CACFP guidelines. The cook will prepare meals within the recipes provided. 

Specific duties and responsibilities include:

  • Prepare and serve a variety of hot and cold menu items for children and staff each day (an average of up to 300 meals per day); observe quality and quantity of food served according to established guidelines; assure proper temperature of foods; assure compliance with safety and sanitation requirements.  
  • Determine appropriate quantity of food items for cooking and baking; measure and weigh ingredients; calculate, adjust and extend recipes; maintain high food quality standards including appearance and nutritional requirements. 
  • Purchase groceries, produce, commodities, services, materials and supplies for the food program. 
  • Stock condiments, food items and paper goods; purchase, storage and rotation of supplies in storage areas; assist with daily and periodic inventories as assigned. 
  • Provides timely reports to Children’s Center Administrative Staff. 
  • Comply with food handling and safety practices and maintain sanitary working conditions. Clean serving counters, tables, food containers, utensils, and other food service equipment. 
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Program Director or Executive Director. 
  • Maintain punctual and consistent attendance. 

Required skills and experience:

  • Ability to lift, bend and carry up to 50 pounds and work standing for up to 8 hours per day 
  • Must pass Servsafe Certification exam 
  • Must be certified and fully understand CACFP 
  • A love for children and a strong desire to make a difference every day 
  • Must pass the DOJ/FBI/Child Abuse Index fingerprint process 
  • Must pass a pre-employment physical examination and tuberculosis clearance 
  • Show verification for the COVID-19, Measles, Mumps and Rubella (MMR) and the Diphtheria, Tetanus and Pertussis (DTaP) vaccinations 
  • Self-starter, innovative and ability to multitask 
  • Maintains a positive attitude under pressure  
  • Must be knowledgeable on HACCP controls along with proper storage and use of food 
  • Purchasing, food storage and sanitation experience is desired 
  • Exceptional client relations skills 
  • Knowledge of safe and sanitary food handling principles 
  • Conformity to the highest standards of personal integrity and ethical behavior 

Working Conditions & Physical Demands

  • Food service environment. Subject to heat from grills, stovetops and ovens. Exposure to hot foods, liquids, equipment and metal objects; working around knives, slicers or other sharp objects; exposure to cleaning chemicals and fumes. Travel between facilities and/or local vendors as needed.  
  • Hearing and speaking to exchange information in person or on the telephone; seeing to read a variety of documents; sitting or standing for extended periods of time; walking; dexterity of hands and fingers to operate equipment; intermittent bending, stooping or reaching overhead to retrieve or store materials; occasional lifting, carrying, pushing or pulling of moderately heavy equipment or objects; driving a vehicle to conduct business activities. 

Salary
