Kara Shoemaker serves as the Director of Development for LEAP, where she helps build strong, mission-driven partnerships that support children and families across Santa Barbara County. She joined the organization in 2023, drawn by LEAP’s commitment to justice, community engagement, and hands-on support for families.

Kara earned her B.A. in English from UC Santa Barbara, with an emphasis in environmental literature. She has spent her career in development and relationship-building roles, including serving as Development Manager for the Santa Barbara Foundation, Donor Relations and Communications Manager at UC Santa Barbara, and Development Assistant at Direct Relief.

In her role at LEAP, Kara enjoys working with a diverse network of community partners, including donors, volunteers, elected officials, and local businesses, to share LEAP’s mission and build meaningful and impactful relationships. She finds joy in connecting people to work that strengthens families and uplifts the community. Outside of work, Kara enjoys writing, dancing, and spending time with her adorable pet sheep.
